Educators Mutual Apple Tree Campaign
to Provide New Clothing and Supplies for More than 40 Children; Community Can
Help by Picking an Apple at Local Retailers, Online
SALT LAKE CITY (July 13, 2009) –
Educators Mutual Insurance Association today announced the launch of a campaign
to collect new back-to-school clothing and supplies for more than 40 children
living in The Road Home, a Salt Lake family homeless shelter, and also residing
in affordable housing.
Educators Mutual Apple Trees have been
set up at 15 DownEast locations along the Wasatch Front and at three Salt Lake
Staples locations. Participants select an apple, which includes the name of a
child living in the shelter or affordable housing along with a needed item for
back-to-school. In addition, Apple Trees have been set up in the lobbies of
FM100 and Educators Mutual.
This year’s campaign also offers the
option of selecting an apple online at www.EducatorsMutual.com, purchasing
clothing and supplies for a child and returning it to one of 20 campaign
partners from Provo to Ogden.
“Because of the challenging economy
this year, the needs for back-to-school at The Road Home have never been
greater,” said Christie Hawkes, senior vice president of corporate
communications, Educators Mutual. “We created the program to give these deserving
children a boost and to provide a convenient way for the public to help.”
At the completion of the campaign,
which runs through Aug. 17, Educators Mutual will deliver the clothing and
school supplies to The Road Home in time for back to school.
The Educators Mutual Apple Tree
campaign collected nearly 1,000 items last year, which resulted in school
supplies and at least one new outfit – shirt, pants and shoes – for each of the
children at the Road Home and living in affordable housing. For more
information about the campaign, visit www.educatorsmutual.com.
