EDUCATORS MUTUAL SPONSORS “WALK THE
WALK” PROGRAM TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES IN UTAH SCHOOLS
“Walk the
Walk” offers Teachers, Administrators, Classified Employees Free Pedometers and
Activities Program to Organize Competitions in Their Schools
SALT LAKE CITY (March 29, 2010) – Educators Mutual Insurance Association (EMIA), a
nonprofit organization serving the needs of Utah’s public schools and
institutions for 75 years, today announced the launch of its fifth annual “Walk the Walk,” a program to help
motivate Utah teachers, administrators and classified employees to be more
active and to promote healthy lifestyles in schools.
The
EMIA-sponsored program is available to help Utah schools organize a competition
tailored to their individual needs and to develop and implement healthy
classroom plans anytime during 2010. Each participating school will receive an
activities program and free pedometers for participants to track their steps.
“The goal of
‘Walk the Walk’ is to motivate teachers, administrators and classified
employees to be more active and in turn set an example for our children,” said
EMIA CEO Andy Galano. “We believe ‘Walk the Walk’ will inspire many to lead a healthier
lifestyle.”
Educators Mutual
will provide “Walk the Walk” program materials on a first come first service
basis with a limit of 5 to 25 participants at each school and 500 participants

In recent years,
“Walk the Walk” has experienced participation from more than 2,500 teachers, administrators
and classified employees at 150 elementary schools statewide. Participants have
recorded steps equaling 274,830 miles, many of which were taken with their
students.
