EDUCATORS MUTUAL EXECUTIVE NAMED AS “30 WOMEN TO WATCH”

Christie Hawkes Honored for Business Leadership, Personal and Philanthropic Achievement

SALT LAKE CITY (May 14, 2010) – Educators Mutual Insurance Association (EMIA), a nonprofit organization serving the needs of Utah’s public schools and institutions for 75 years, today announced

Christie Hawkes, executive vice president of corporate communications and provider relations, has been named as one of “30 Women to Watch.” The recognition, which was bestowed by Utah Business magazine, honors 30 female business leaders who are passionate, driven and focused, take risks, break barriers and make a difference.

During her tenure with EMIA, Hawkes has played a key role in the organization’s success. This has included nearly doubling member’s equity, increasing customer satisfaction rankings to one of the highest in the local industry, more than doubling enrollment in dental and vision plans, strengthening relationship with partners and twice being named Utah’s best insurance company.

“We are fortunate to have such an exceptional member as part of our executive team who leads our communications efforts, philanthropic work and advocates EMIA’s goal to maximize its benefits while keeping premiums low,” said Steve Morrison, Educators Mutual CEO. “As an effective leader, Christie is successful in all of her endeavors as she influences people to work together to best serve the needs of our members.”

Hawkes began with Educators Mutual Insurance Association (EMIA) as a communication specialist. She quickly climbed the corporate ladder with promotions to assistant vice president, vice president and then two years ago to senior vice president of corporate communications/provider relations, one of the organization’s highest ranking positions.
